B2O iRacing 24H of Nürburgring Team Discussion

i have tested it:
tire change takes 27-28 seconds
fueling and tire change IS separate

so not changing tires. you can afford to lose 27/8 = 3,3 seconds per lap on average

lets say you push the car less (because it's more dangerous) and you drive 2 sec per lap slower than normally, you'd gain 8x1,3 = 10 sec per stint. it might just get you some positions over a race

the trick would be learning to drive with old tires
(2 sec slower per lap is my estimate we would need to test it first)

Yesterday I lost close to 2 seconds on my 2nd lap compared to my 1st, but after that it remained pretty static. It wouldn't be a bad test. Also keep an eye on your fuel. If we have 0.8 laps left at the end, which often happens at Nürburgring we might be able to get rid of 1-2 pit stops by saving a little.

I could be available at any point in the race but my preferred times are (GMT):
Saturday: 13:00 - 00:00
Sunday: 08:00 - 13:00

so if we save some fuel by driving slower in general and pushing less wouldn't we be able to do double tire stints and drive 9 laps?

that sounds like such s next level strategy xD

we're gonna be the slowest all race but save massive time in pit. i'm actually really curious where that would get us :p

math:
9 x 8,5 would give us a 1h and 15 min stint
24 / 1,25 would give us around 20 stints (need calculations on how mcuh we'll save when only changing tires 10 times)

as opposed to
8 x 8,5 is 1h and 8 min stint
24 / 1,13 is 22 stints so 2 more full pitstops

now the question is how much time we'd lose saving fuel and if all of that time is less than 2 full pitstops

or we could do a combination? 8 laps on new tires (pushing hard) then 9 laps on old tires (not pushing hard and saving)

this is endurance racing at it's best :p

btw, a 2 hour session is not enough to drive 2 stints so we'd have to join or create a hosted session

good time on qualifying Noël! would you think you're able to get us into top split with your irating?

anyone practicing in 90 minutes btw? (regular PP time)

Noël hav you made some setup yet? i can't run consistently yet in your old one. atm i'm running this. could you please give it a try. i feel like it's pretty decent.

I didn't find mistakes in the calculations you did Sam. If I get some fuel data I'll plug it in my script to see what makes sense stint wise (it takes into account varying pit stop lengths but not double stinting tires).

I'm still running the VRS setup so far.

And we probably won't make it into the top split with my iRating seeing how popular the Porsche is.

porsche, audi and mazda have almost equal entries. so we just might make it, i'm not letting go on my hope yet :p

also @Zac_Sonic will be joining our top team since he has the pace
everyone ok with that?

are theo and @incndry both driving??

i'm pretty sure fuel saving isn't going to be worth it because even if you have 0,8 laps left you have to save for 3 litres which i think will cost you more time than gain

about the tires i think it is worth it. i will do some further testing tommorow, you wanna join? we could settle on a setup aswell.

Does someone want to run a QS for the Pleb team? I am happy to run one but my iRating is 1430, so that would likely put us at the back of the pack on the grid.

I'll certainly run one for sure but probably Thursday or Friday.

It would be good if someone else ran one too.

I don't mind at all if Marc joins team 1. In my view it's not a question of pace alone but also experience and awareness. But of course if we have two teams it makes sense to make the the highest iRating one competitive for that split.

@Sam Roselaar I didn't think 3 L per stint is a lot but if testing shows it is then we can always do some more stints and have slightly shorter fuel stops.

I'm pretty sure I'll be around tomorrow at Dutch evening times for some testing.

Here is my qualifying lap on chase cam if you're interested in the line or braking points. It was an 8:23 and I don't think I would be able to go much faster this week. The setup was the VRS setup with 18 L of fuel.

I'd still like to practice Wyatt's setup for a lap or two if possible. I was going to do that yesterday but then iRacing's server decided to kick me out as I was about to start a lap.

But at the moment I prefer the VRS setup over mine overall. I'll also test your VLN setup tomorrow, Sam.

I've adjusted to the Wyatt setup, but I prefer the VRS setup as well. It just gets on the power better, at least with my driving style. Power on in the Porsche is so important I'm willing to back my braking points up for stability under braking to get it.
