Just a few more WIP's of the BMW.

The names are stacked which I like so it'll certainly be imperative that those who want to drive actually drive in at least a few Official Sessions.

Looking even better Duke. Did you mess with the vents? Maybe its the angles, but it does look better. Still wish I wasn't moving next weekend...

It's not the angles, only the fins are red now. I like it a lot.

Just to confirm what Noel said, the fins themselves are painted individually. I left a very small portion of each fin black (at the top) just to add contrast between them.

The problem with the BMW fins as opposed to most is there proximity and angle to one another. It's really difficult to make them appear as individual without a little trickery but I think they turned out pretty nice.

What nearly killed me was getting that Twitch Logo there, what a bl00dy nightmare.

I just have to button up a bit more of the branding and tackle sponsor decals front and back and I'll consider the BMW primarily complete (at least for now). This is certainly a good enough start for endurance.

I'll be creating 2 versions as well, one with Endurance Driver names (stacked) and a second with individual names for those who want them.

Next up, the McLaren.

Haha nice. It's amazing how some things that a painter has got to appear "normal" was really an extreme, long and annoying process.

I already know the McLaren is going to suck trying to get the Red B2O to line up and I'm not looking forward to it at all lol.

Actually come to think of it, maybe it's similar to the C7 because that had to be cut up as well to fit.

I haven't yet finished it. There are some issues with the way the website is displayed that I'm not happy about and I still have to finish the front/rear bumpers.

Once they're done I'll release the car.

Some WIPs of the McLaren Endurance:



Easily one of the worst cars in iRacing to paint. In order to place the Red B2O on the side of the car, I have to fiddle with lining up 5 different panels. Sadly, some of the panels fall away at differing angles so no amount of movement can make them appear to align at all angles.

Also, unfortunately there seems to be no way to get rid of the McLaren Window Decal, it's a part of the car and is automatically covered by iRacing.

I hope they change it because I'd love to see Blancpain there.

That is as good as it gets with it, and it looks great. Good job Ken. Those panels are ridiculous. For the Koons art car I made, I ended up copying the shape of each of those panels, lining up how they WOULD look on the side of the car straight on, then designing them, then copying the contents back onto the template. It's a good little workaround.

I wonder if that sponsor / decal removal trick removes that Macca logo at the top.

Logo's like these are handled by the car_decal_xxxxxx.tga file. You can change the file locally so that you can see it yourself (everyone else will see the Mclaren logo) or you can upgrade to Trading Paints Pro and upload your own custom car_decal files to share with the world..

Yeah we discussed this before. It would be awesome to do in our league setting to everyone's paint (gathering everyone's member # wouldn't be difficult) just to show off for people who want it and streamers, etc.

There are certain decals you can't remove though. If I'm not mistaken, I remember the wing of the Cadillac cannot be edited (it has the script Cadillac logo) and the car_Decal trick didn't remove it either.

I'd love to have Blancpain displayed on the Macca windshield but not enough to pay Trading Paints for the privilege. There is just so little value in a Trading Paints Pro membership that I can't justify paying it just to see Blancpain displayed.

For our League we'll have to try the local fixes.

It does literally the exact same thing as placing a blank car_decal_xxxxx.tga into your paints folder, with your member number in place as we talked about before. Something we can do for our league with all the members for people streaming.

EDIT: I'd also like to point out this screen I took from an official race yesterday. Note: no car_decal blank tgas or trading paints pro were involved in this.

Ya I know you can do that but it's only good for unofficial events. In official events iRacing places the default decals over top and if there is any issue with alignment whatsoever you get blurred or double images.
