iRacing 24h of Le Mans 2016

Here is my tire data after a 1h30m race (no tires during pit stop). My pressures are a little low so I probably need to bump them up for colder weather.

Note my rear tires wearing down a lot more than the front, most likely because of the lots of wheel spin I get with my current set.

i did a session with this setup and found that it was a lot more stable with TC on 6 and brake bias at approximately 50%. it's still very loose on braking and corner exit but i think it's fast? i did a 3:54:500 but i don't know if that's any good.

are we going to practice more ProtoGT tonight at practice pals? i'll try to make it anyway.

I definitely agree on TC settings. But both are preferential and since they're both in-car settings, they can be adjusted on a driver-to-driver basis mid-race. Being loose on braking might just be a combo of braking mid-corner and such, too. It's actually very crazy how many braking zones, major ones, that involve a sort of kink or corner in the middle of it. Corner exit feels pretty good to me.

As for tonight, yes, that's the plan, including doing a ProtoGT race. We should have a lot of guys on tonight doing it and should be able to make a race go official just on our own.

I'll be doing some setup testing tonight, mostly to see if I can get rid of the wheel spin on exit.

I too get a bit loose if I throw it into a corner too fast, mostly in the Dunlop Chicane (turn 2). I think higher brake bias is a pretty good remedy to that, if it's still a problem for some people we can probably tweak it in the setup (shocks, rake or differential). But the Aston has always been susceptible to lift-off oversteer for me.

i really liked driving the aston, more than corvette and ford. if you guys think i'm good enough i'd like to drive the aston for the 24h of le mans.

but only if i'm not a burden to the team xD

i'll be going to sleep now so i can join tonights Practice Pals.

So my numbers per Fuel Buddy after a 90 minute race:

Tank: 90 Liters
Usage Per Lap: 6.882 Liters
Usage Per Minute: 1.759 Liters
Laps Per Fuel Tank: 13
Fuel Consumption Over 1440 Minutes (24 Hours): 2533.219 Liters
Pit Stops Required Over 1440 Minutes (24 Hours): 28

Pit crew is gonna get a work out, for sure!

Nice info Zac!

Here is my updated setup. Tire pressures up 1 click, gearing should be more balanced now (4th in Porsche Curves, 2nd in slow corners).

Softened the rear springs a bit and messed a little with the differential, it should take away some of the wheel spin on exit.

Fuel buddy for second stint of the race (slower because didn't take tires... and i'm slow)

Also, stats of all three stints (2 race stints and qualify)

You can see my own personal fall off in the second stint because I didn't take new tires. Overall I had a very good race, no spins, only a couple of owls, nothing major, so it's a very good indicator of average lap times.

@Daunt nice lap lap times there. i'll practice some more today and if i don't spin i think i can get in the 53's aswell with my best lap 51,5 so far.

my timezone is GMT +2 but i think i'll stay up the whole 24 hours with the exception of a bit of sleep after one of my stints maybe. so i can race at any time without any time restrictions.

My first night back to iRacing was brutal man. I've never driven a car in a sim as loose as that Corvette.

Touch the brake in anything other than a straight line - spin. Touch the brake too much in a straight line - spin. Touch the throttle in anything other than a straight line - spin. Push the throttle just a little bit more in a straight line - spin. Spin spin spin spin.

After an hour or two I was dizzier than a fart in a spacesuit.

So, apologies for leaving abruptly but obviously that was better than losing my shi* completely which I was very close to. I'll give it some some more practice because I refuse to let iRacing beat me into submission this time.

It is frustrating though because I've driven some fast cars around race tracks before and this Corvette (and a lot of cars in iRacing) just feel like I'm driving on ice with slicks. There doesn't seem to be any grip whatsoever! :( In a real car I'm pushing way, way harder than that and still have plenty of grip left. It seems if you even think of pushing in iRacing you are off into the wall...

I'll keep at it.

I was impressed with how the sim looks now though, and the sound of the Corvette and other cars around me was great.

NP P. You really should work slowly into it. Taking on a pretty difficult track in a fast class isn't the best way to get back into the swing of things without wanting to punch something. Just a thought. They are tough to get used to.

Hence the warnings for the Corvette handling :p. The Aston is a bit better but in the end both GT1 cars are hard to drive. Less down force than a GT3 and more power. Also, the Le Mans session we did was in cold weather, which means the outlap will have much less grip than two laps in. And most setups at Le Mans run low wing, meaning even less grip on the rear end.

Yeah it's all good. Bit like not having boxed for two years then jumping in with Mike Tyson in his prime. Not going to go well I suppose ;)

I'm going to concentrate on Blancpain going forward, I've bought all the remaining tracks so I'll see how I get on. Thanks for the advice and help so far dudes.

i ran 2 stints on a very cold track with average lap times of 3:54:500 in my first stint (it would have been way better on a hot track) but i feel like i can still improve so i'll keep practicing ;)

my 2nd stint i didn't take fresh tires and had way more inconsistent lap times and worse times overall, alot worse (into the 3:56's) but keep in mind that the track was really cold. there is so much time lost here when you run 13 laps with old tires. and the chances of spinning and wrecking the car are way higher aswell.

so i feel like taking fresh tires every pitstop is worth it. how does everyone else think of this? and what will we be doing in the race?
