The question is will ED allow it to be added to the jet if you are launching from a carrier? In the real world that apparently does not occur.
I think it does when Marine jets launch from a carrier. When Marine Expeditionary Forces deploy, their fighter wings are deployed on Navy carriers. When Marine pilots do rotations through Carrier Air Wings I would guess they have to learn the ATFLIR, but when an entire Marine squadron deploys to a carrier I can't imagine they all retrain to ATFLIR.

That said, ED would probably allow it even if it was slightly unrealistic. At least until ATFLIR is in the game. If server admins/mission makers want to enforce that level of realism they could.

Wheehee, just did my first ever take off in the F18, from the Stennis. Had some issues with the wheel bar but Nejt pointed me in the right direction, this plane is frikkin awesome.

Nice man, have you tried a landing on a carrier yet?

I tried it once and this was pretty much exactly how it went, right down to the moment the plane made contact with the carrier deck...

I love this film btw, almost as much as Top Gun... almost ;)

Heck yes it is. Carrier operations are nerve racking and sweet all at the same time :). Just don’t ask Nejt to get you back on deck in one piece. LOL

Brainling - See the DCS newsletter today regarding the Viper? Sounds to me like it could come quicker than people thought due to so many similar systems to the Hornet.

I did, yes. I figure that would be the case as the underlying simulation for a lot of the systems is going to be common. Air to ground radar is air to ground radar, a tpod is a tpod. The differences come down to the pilot interface and graphical dressing. All the various weapons are identical between the platforms, outside of a few variants that one or the other uses. The only new system they'll really need to code from the ground up for the Viper is the HTS.

Most of the work for the Viper will end up being it's flight model. It's a relatively complicated fly by wire system. I bet the control laws are going to take them some time to get right.

I'm beyond excited though. The Viper has been, and always will be, my favorite military aircraft.

Guys guys. The default gamma for me was to high and made everything washed out. It looks way better at lower gamma values. I suggest putting it around 1.5 - 1.7 gamma. Had it on 2.1 but that was just to high and ugly.

PS: i dont have Normandy or WW2 assets. :(

EA first impressions...

It's beautiful.
Wow this simply looks like an AMAZING module and Heatblur should get an award or something for all the detail they seem to be bringing. I love how Jester keeps performing the call outs in the middle of a dogfight as this should help people like me (who often lose sight visually of a bandit) reacquire a visual. Also love the random comments made and the fact that the menu seems to be easily navigated via track ir.

Will be interesting to see both how many rudder pedals are sold as a result of this module and how many Tomcats simply are falling out of the sky due to people not being used to operating them in flight.

I for one am looking forward to the module and am glad I purchased it but time will tell if it becomes my primary DCS addiction much like the Hornet is for me at present.

Nice one @Jeeve79! Looking forward to flying with you in WW2 :)

Tonight was just incredible, We had @Nejtun , @Wapwap , @Kinger and myself in fully armed Hueys storming an airfield and absolutely decimating it while @ElektroVodka buzzing us in an F-18 and later performing a textbook aircraft carrier landing while I watched from my hovering Huey on air sea rescue duty.

Massive thanks to Netjun for running helping myself and Wapwap get going in the Huey, excellent tutor!

Kinger flying for 20 minutes or so to meet us at our airfield in his Huey only to hit a tree over half way there.... I nearly popped a kidney.

The repeated emergency landings by Wappy and myself in the Hueys (we'll get it eventually) were also pretty funny but man, that attack on the airfield where we flew in the formation of four choppers and EV's Hornet doing flyby's at a million miles an hour was just epic beyond words. Thanks guys! Amazing night.

So as well as the Huey I picked up the Nevada map and the Persian Gulf map, looking forward to sightseeing Las Vegas in my Huey, and visiting the Hoover Dam.

Screenies to follow and I might try and put together a little highlights video. What a night!
